The best poker strategies

Poker is a very popular game which combines luck and strategy. There are several styles to play poker and all of them have a common objective. A poker hand is built with 5 poker cards including common cards and dealt cards. To play poker like a professional poker player it takes a lot of practice and training.

Poker players place their bets in a determined number of rounds as the cards are being dealt, using several mathematic methods and intuitive poker strategies in the attempt to defeat the opponents.

As there are several poker variants, the poker strategy subject is very complex, so in this article there will be mentioned just basic concepts about poker strategies. Many concepts take part in a poker game in order to win and there is no magic recipe to play poker and win.

Fundamental poker theorem, introduced by David Sklansky, says that: every time you play your hand like you would if you could see your opponent’s cards, you win, and every time your opponent plays his cards in a different way he would is he could see you cards, you win. This theorem is the base of many strategies in poker games.

From this theorem comes out the concept of bluffing which induce the opponent to play in a different way he would if he could see your poker cards. There are some exceptions to the theorem which are presented in some multiple jackpots situations as described in Morton’s theorem.
